You would agree that becoming obese is a slow process that has taken years of in those ​dis serving habits – I call them “old” habits – that ultimately make you feel stuck.

We use ​will power​ – which works for some time, until it just feels too hard and we find ourselves recoiling back to the old reality.

This is the reason why so many New Year Resolutions fail!

We are creatures of habit

Meet Fenella – a beautiful 27 yr old teacher from Bright (country Victoria) who found herself to be at a heavy weight of 165 kilos a few months ago.This was limiting her ability to work as a teacher being on feet all day, with a sore back.

She hated all her clothes and would feel awful when she saw her own reflection, being always aware of feeling like the biggest person in a room. Fenella already had high blood pressure and was worried about being able to have children.

She felt stuck …almost having become a creature of her own “self sabotaging” habits!

A “short” 3 month journey reflects a “massive” shift for Fenella!

The more you do something, the more likely you are to do it in the future. The habit-driven brain doesn’t distinguish between good and problematic behaviors; it just builds repeated behaviors, thoughts, and feelings into stronger and stronger neuronal circuits.

So what’s a person to do? Are we doomed to live on automatic pilot, driven by our lower brain and our habits?

We do have a choice: We can mindlessly play out problematic behaviors over and over again, becoming essentially prisoners of our own habits. Or we can step back, use our higher brains, and reflect on our actions. That’s when we ​“Shift”.
